Release of Investigating the Alignment of High School and Community College Assessments in California

WHAT: A new report, Investigating the Alignment of High School and Community College Assessments in California. The purpose of the study was to determine the academic skills and abilities that high school students need in order to enroll in math and English language arts credit-bearing courses at a community college. Researchers examined the standards represented in the placement tests given to community college students to evaluate their competency in these subjects. In addition to the complete findings, the report offers details on the researcher's methodologies and recommendations.
WHO:Commissioned by the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, the report was authored by Richard S. Brown and David N. Niemi. Brown is an Assistant Professor in the USC Rossier School of Education. Niemi is an Assistant Director at the Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing at UCLA and Vice President of Evaluation and Research at K12, Inc. Support for the project was provided by The James Irvine Foundation.
