OUTSTANDING YOUNG LEADERS
APPOINTED TO ADVISORY BODY ON HIGHER EDUCATION POLICY
San Jose, Calif. -- The National Center for Public Policy and
Higher Education has appointed a selective group of ten professionals who will advise
the National Center on major trends in higher education policy. This diverse group
includes early- to mid-career professionals from academia, government, and other
nonprofit organizations dealing directly with higher education public policy.
"I am delighted that these individuals have agreed to participate in the
Associates Program," said Patrick Callan, president of the National Center.
"We look forward to working with them in assessing and shaping higher education
policy."
The Associates Program, supported by the Ford Foundation, engages early- to mid-career
public policy scholars and leaders interested in addressing the current public policy
challenges facing higher education. Associates meet periodically to advise the National
Center on its agenda and activities. The ten Associates were selected from throughout
the country, based on a rigorous nomination and application process.
The Associates were selected in February 2000, and their first meeting was held
last week in Virginia. The Associates include: Jared L. Bleak, Harvard University;
Walter A. Brown, George Washington University; Laura Greene Knapp,
Education Research Consultant; Donald E. Heller, University of Michigan; Mario
C. Martinez, New Mexico State University; Lillian Montoya-Rael, New Mexico
Commission on Higher Education; Nicole S. Norfles, George Washington University;
Travis J. Reindl, American Association of State Colleges and Universities;
Gavin A. Samms, Harvard University; and Gerardo E. de los Santos, League
for Innovation in the Community Colleges.
The National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education is an independent,
nonpartisan, nonprofit organization promoting public policies that increase Americans’
opportunities to pursue and attain quality education and training beyond high school.
